Call to Action

  • Follow critical legislative activity at http://www.clcbcnm.org.
  • Domestic Partners Bill 2008
  • Promote traditional marriage in your church and community.
    • The NM Marriages First Project serves couples across all age groups and ethnicities in Bernalillo and Sandoval Counties. The Project goal is to provide culturally appropriate marriage education, marriage enrichment projects, and programs that explore positive relationship models to married couples, engaged couples, couples interested in marriage and teenagers, thus strengthening marriage and reducing the incidence of divorce. Through partnerships with community agencies, NM Marriages First will help interested couples gain greater access to marriage education services enabling them to acquire skills to form and sustain healthy marriages.  Follow the link for upcoming events.  http://www.themarriagelifeline.com
    • Encourage youth to wait for marriage.  Today’s culture bombards youth with messages to have sex as early and often as possible.  Unfortunately, educators often leave out consequences of sex before marriage when teaching “safer sex” programs.  The contradiction of self-control promoted by the Character Counts program also ironic.  The NM Sec of Education issued a policy against the teaching of abstinence in NM public schools.  NM had been receiving federal funding of about $500K annually for abstinence education that promoted saving sex for marriage.  The NM Abstinence Education Coalition continues to promote abstinence education in NM.  http://www.nmaec.org/
